As the fourth-largest country in the world and with 50 unique states, the U.S. is full of incredible things to explore and discover. From exciting urban landscapes to stunning natural scenery, there’s something for everyone. Here are some of the amazing things our international healthcare professionals have been up to in the United States, with pictures of their adventures.
Exploring the states
With transport between states easily accessible whether you own a car or not, there’s plenty of opportunity to explore. Things can vary widely from state to state, from landscapes to accents and even local cultures, so it’s worth experiencing to see what’s beyond the borders of your home community.
Festivals
The U.S. is home to some superb events! There are fabulous large festivities like Mardi Gras in New Orleans and St Patrick’s Day parades in Chicago (they dye the Chicago River green!), musical extravaganzas such as Coachella in California and Austin City Limits in Texas, and a number of smaller – but no less exciting – local happenings and celebrations, such as beautiful hot air balloons events.
Global cuisine
The United States is a true melting pot of international culture, and that’s certainly reflected in the array of global cuisines available throughout the country. Large cities in particular will have a wide choice of different dining options from around the world. Why not make it a personal challenge to try as many as possible?
Natural wonders
You may have heard of big tourist attractions such as the Grand Canyon in Arizona and Old Faithful in Wyoming’s Yellowstone Park, but there are so many more breathtakingly beautiful natural wonders to discover in the U.S. National Parks, found throughout the country, are home to some incredible landscapes, from deserts to snowy mountains.
Big cities
If you’re a fan of U.S. cinema or TV, chances are you’re (somewhat!) familiar with big cities like New York and Los Angeles. Nothing beats visiting them in person and experiencing them for yourself, though! A trip to the country’s bigger cities can be expensive, so we recommend shopping around to find the best deals for transport and accommodation.
Extreme fun
If you’re an adrenaline fan, you’ll be spoiled for choice! From water sports like surfing to cold weather activities such as skiing, and everything in between, the widely varied terrain in the U.S. offers plenty of options for nature-based, high-energy activities. A group of Conexus MedStaff healthcare professionals recently enjoyed a white-water rafting trip in West Virginia. There are also opportunities for sky diving, bungee jumping, caving, rock climbing, dog sledding, and many, many more, throughout the U.S.!
